Our assigned recruiter - who has been amazing - is pushing for an ISR for our DD. What exactly does this mean, what does it entail?
So basically, my DD is a rock star? I'm good with that. Thank you!The vast majority of NROTC scholarships are processed through a recruiter and then submitted to NSTC for review by the Scholarship Review Board. In the case of ISR (Immediate Scholarship Reservation), the CO of an NTAG (Navy Talent Acquisition Group) can select a candidate pretty much on the spot. Those selected for ISR are still submitted to NSTC and the package gets reviewed, but it is reviewed to ensure nothing major was skipped or missed (AFA was passed, SAT/ACT scores submitted, etc.)
So if DD was to be told she had been selected for an ISR, then she would not need to worry about getting picked out of a group of candidates by the selection board.
In terms of the NROTC contract, the specific course requirements, the college selection process, etc......ISR and the 4-year regular scholarship would be identical. It just comes down to whether or not the application gets lumped in with everyone else, or if the NTAG CO picks them. If you have watched America's Got Talent, I think the ISR is akin to the "Golden Buzzer".
Amen, Capt!Your DD is most definitely a Rock Star. I would note, however, that every mom with a DD would tell you theirs is a bigger rock star.

Be aware ISR won't be confirmed to a later board... ours was not processed until Dec even though the ISR was awarded early OCT.
Impact was we didn't know about school assignment as early as those in the OCT board.
Awesome news. I am assuming that word came from her recruiter or perhaps the NTAG Co.She was selected
The CO. Thank you - good info every time!Awesome news. I am assuming that word came from her recruiter or perhaps the NTAG Co.
What will likely happen os that ISR package will be submitted with the October Board results to NSTC. And they simply review the paperwork to ensure all the signatures are in the right place. Then there should be an email from Great Lakes (usually abbreviated "GRTLKS" or something lile that. Then it's on to the next thing which will be completing the DODMERB screening.
Thx, appreciate itThe recruiter is a little confused. For ISR nominations, the NTAG CO makes the selection by whatever process he/she wants. Then the package is sent over to NSTC. They do a cursory review to ensure all requirements are met. It goes in front of one of the regular NROTC boards. They don't vote on the package and compare it to other packages on that board. They simply are giving it a sanity check to make sure everything is properly signed and dated. ISR packages don't "compete" at the board. If no errors, they are accepted.
As for those college choices, if the college accepts you son, there won't be any issue with either of them.
Are the ISR scholarships for just Navy or does Marine Option also have ISR scholarships?I also found out recently that the next board will have about a dozen ISR packages presented, so it looks like they have bundled a group of them together. There are typically about 110 ISR selectees each year.
The ISR is sponsored by Navy Recruiting Command through the NTAGs. It is only for Navy and not Marine Options. Are the ISR scholarships for just Navy or does Marine Option also have ISR scholarships?
There is a minimum, but I'm not sure what it is with the new SAT grading scale. The only document I've ever found showing the selection criteria is from 2013. For ACT it is a 54 combined minimum, with at least a 26 Math. The applicant must be in the top 20% of their graduating class. This document from 2013 shows the evaluation worksheet:With the ISR, is there a minimum standard for test scores that all applicants have to meet or is it solely up to the discretion of the CO?
