Unfortunately I was recently dq'd for my astigmatism (right eye: -4.25 left eye: -2.75) and my current status on the dodmerb website says pending waiver submission review....I have yet to receive the dq letter but I'm trying to figure out if it is my job as the applicant to go through my unit and request a waiver or is it automatically requested and reviewed. Also I know this is hard to determine given that each case is different, but I was wondering what are the chances of getting a waiver for my astigmatism. I know the standards and understand I'm slightly over in my right eye, but is this something that can't be waived.

the ROTC folk will automatically review and decide on a waiver. No action on your part is needed. At my DS's AROTC unit they have a person who seems to honcho the medical stuff and has good contacts with the HQ people who process this stuff. You may wish to consider being in touch with this person at your unit if things seem to be dragging on. I gather it is a very busy time for the waiver people.
I have no idea about how they view astigmatism.
