DS had his NROTC-MO Scholarship interview about a week ago. He interviewed with a Marine Captain and a Lt. Colonel. DS thinks it went well.

Today he just got a follow-up call. This is what DS reported to me:

“I got a call from the station commander at the office on ______ Dr. I’m going in on Monday to talk with him a little. He’s gonna show me around and give me a pull-up program to do and make sure my form is good.”

I am hoping that this telephone call is a sign that the Marines see potential in DS. But I am always suspicious that they are just grooming him to enlist if he doesn’t get a scholarship. Anyway, he won’t turn 18 until next March, so he can’t sign a binding contract until then. And, we can afford to send him to state college without a scholarship and he does want to go to college and commission.

Just tell your son to let them know respectfully but firmly that he is only interested in NROTC (if that's what he wants). My recruiters were a great support system during my application and I can't imagine what could've happened if I burned that bridge. If he wants to really be liked he can give his recruiter phone numbers of friends that could be interested in enlisting, I guarantee that recruiter will be happy.

I think you might have hit the nail on the head. DS is the XO of his NJROTC unit, a past national championship unit that sends A LOT of recruits to Paris Island. My DS can be a useful connection for the recruiter. So it could be a mutually beneficial relationship.
