NROTC - MO

I point you to an article by a Marine selection board member. Google SandGram Marine option scholarship.

If your kid isn't enthusiastic about being a Marine (and that means awesome PT scores which is a non-negotiable part of the culture) then it's unlikely the Marines will have much interest in giving him money on the chance he might somehow want to be a Marine officer in the future. They are very good at looking at applicants and then shouting "Next!".
 
If your kid is interested in the Marines I suggest looking at PLC. You may miss out on the scholarship but can actually have a real life in college without the NROTC grade pressure and array of ROTC-specific responsibilities.

I would like to give an update on my DS's status. I appreciate every single comment here and thank you all for offering great advice and encouragement. He completed his interview with a Marine Captain and a 2nd phone interview with a different officer. He has been participating in the weekly PT sessions with the poolies at the local recruiting office and has developed a rapport with the staff. Today, he completed his PFT. This was the main reason I posted, because he didn't feel ready back in September. His scores today: pull-ups 21 (max - did an extra one over the max just to be safe), plank 3:45 (max), run 21:41. According to the calculator, that's a 276 = Class 1. He feels pretty good about it. Now time to wait until the board meets!! He's already been awarded the 4-year AROTC in the 1st board, so I think some of the pressure was off, but he still threw himself at this PFT.

When looking at all the ROTC board schedules, they all list specific dates, except NROTC-MO, which just says "November 2023". My DS's portal says, "Your application is at the Marine Corps District for Board Selection." Anyone who knows any additional info on when they meet or make a decision?
 
I was told in my interview the dates for NROTC-MO boards are left up to the individual recruiting districts, with the caveat that they must be completed by the end of November.
 
To come full circle, because I appreciate when others follow up on their results (sometimes I get invested in some of these young people's stories and hope for the best for them!!), I'll update on my son. He DID receive the NROTC - MO scholarship last week! He was so shocked, knowing how competitive it is. I had no idea how few districts there are and how truly competitive the Marine option is. Wow. Thanks again for all the support and advice. Our community made a HUGE deal of it. The captain came to school and presented in front of the whole school at lunch, media was there, etc...

There's a reason the Marine Corps met their annual recruiting quota last year and the other services did not. The other services are giving bonuses and lowering standards to get people to join. The Marines don't need to.

Question on the board format... DS has been working directly with the area Captain and was told that they would be going in front of the board in February. Is this an interview panel format, virtual, or just a stack of papers? He already had an interview was with the Captain and a Major, but it sounded like there may be another?

My guess is that he is referring to the official District review Board where the candidates are evaluated for a scholarship. There shouldn't be any other interviews at this point. Best of luck

He only had the two interviews. Then his application went to be boarded at the district HQ. Good luck to your son!
