Excellent! That’s why I posted it. I hope this thread can help someone.I honestly had never heard about this. Not like I’m an expert but even w/ plans A - I for our oldest this never crossed our paths. I’m glad it did now - could be a great option for our middle son who is interested in becoming a mariner. Saw SUNY Maritime had this as an option. We will definitely explore it!
Too bad the USMC does not have this program.I mentioned something about this in the NROTC board results page but probably better to have it as its own thread. But it is true that there are units that are trying to hand these out with limited takers.
That issue was discussed at a recent meeting of PNS's. The answer was that USMC is getting the numbers they need without NPP. For the Navy, we find that it can help with increasing our STEM majors. We wind up in competition with Air Force in terms of seeking the STEM students.Too bad the USMC does not have this program.
You bring up a good point in trying to get the Midshipmen to spread the word. We have a leadership lab on Fridays so that might be a good spot to speak about it. I also do a sort of "road show" and visit some of the high schools. We have one coming up at Woodson (in Virginia) and I always get questions about NPP. I also think the NJROTC teams can help spread the word on this.I had honestly never heard of this before, and that's as someone who closely tracks all things ROTC... Sir @GWU PNS , I think it would be great if the unit COs talked to their MIDN about this program to help spread the word.
I would assume, especially in the units where this program is being offered, that there would be an increase in applications if people told siblings/others in the high schools that they came from. I know at least for my unit, word of mouth was huge in getting people's siblings etc to apply.
All the NJROTC NSI’s are supposed to be spreading the word. The program is only about two years old. We heard about it from the SNSI at DS’s high school two years ago.You bring up a good point in trying to get the Midshipmen to spread the word.
