NROTC NSI Assignment

Good to know. Thank you again for taking the time to give us that insider knowledge. As I mentioned to GrilledCheese in a previous post, NROTC is uncharted waters for us an I’m trying to be a sponge and soak up all the info.

Also, funny you posted that video. I sent that to my DS shortly after he was awarded the scholarship. Long story short, he wasn’t sure if he wanted to do military even after doing the interview and submitting his application, but he changed his mind along the way. The change prompted me to remind him what he’s getting himself into. The video was great, and he’s all in now. Phew!
My DS went to NSI last year in the iteration after the guy that posted the video. When he saw the video, he laughed and said "ya that's about right"

DS was not totally committed before NSI. He wanted to do it, but he was unsure. After NSI, he was 1000% committed and talking career Navy. Now he will change his mind about carrer or not over time, but I was worried that he would go the opposite direction and not want to do it at all(another benefit of NSI is they find out early how committed they are). It felt good for his parents and him that he was on the right path after NSI.

Its a tough 2.5 weeks, but they learn alot about themselves and the Navy. I think it is a great idea and program.

My older son is Class of 2024, the class that had everything canceled (NSI, orientation). He's said there is a noticeable difference in the preparation of the subsequent classes at his unit by attending NSI. Lots of catch up for his class. My husband, who was an enlisted Marine, often cringed at something he noticed wrong with DS' uniform; my son always responded the same, "I didn't get to go to NSI!" It does seem like a great program. And I loved that video, thanks for sharing!

Congrats to your DS for getting through Covid years in NROTC and college as well as the others. I'm sure it is exciting at your house right now with graduation and commissioning coming soon.

Yes, it is, thank you! He had his last day of classes yesterday and Spring Parade and was kind enough to send me a few pics. I'm trying not to ask too many questions about what happens the day after graduation and commissioning, like where he's living, lol. I'm sure he's figuring it out (hopefully). I do not think he's received orders just yet and really hoping he gets to come home the next weekend for his brother's high school graduation. It all went by really, really fast.
