No news is good news. I've read that a bunch on this forum, but it is hard to stick with over time:) DS's portal has been "Your application is at Naval Education and Training Command for final processing and selection determination." for over 20 days. No emails since then and he has checked spam. I know they had a significant amount of applications submitted from end of January to mid February, but how much longer should we wait before reaching out to coordinator to make sure something is not wrong? It probably hasn't been that long, but not many boards left to get in front of.

I see no harm in your DS reaching out the coordinator to confirm that the file is complete, and ask if anything is needed but the fact that the file has been sent on is I believe validation it's completed and now just being processed. Just for peace of mind though, he can g'head and call.

The reality is as you stated though - until you're out of the competition for a scholarship, you're in it - so he still has a shot. I remember my DS's NROTC application sat in "no decision has been made on your application" status for months - while Army and Air Force had awarded him 4 year scholarships more swiftly. Ultimately, he was offered a scholarship for the Navy too, accepted it, and will commission as an Ensign in a few weeks then head to Pensacola for flight school eventually.

Hang in there- he may be in this state for a few more weeks - If I recall a bunch of people heard their decisions in mid-April, and a few more after that. This scholarship is competitive so I would also recommend lining up plans B, C, D just in case this scholarship does not come through. He should keep himself physically, mentally fit and prepare with a good nutrition, sleep plan too as if it works out, he might be off to NSI summer indoc training just a few weeks after receiving this scholarship. Some of those plans can include joining ROTC in college as a college programmer and competing there for the scholarship if it does not happen out of HS. Good luck to you and your son, and thank you for his willingness to serve.

Herman_snead, thank you for your kind words and recommendations. DS has already decided that NROTC is what he is doing and the college he has already been accepted in, so he is going college programmer if no scholarship and is finalizing the application now. I wish his portal read "no decision has been made" at this point because atleast we would know its board eligible. The "at NETC being processed" feels like it is still in limbo.

He is alot more calm about it than I am (which seems to be a common theme on this forum). Ahhh to be young and care free again.

If it was about 20 days since the portal status, that means the package was submitted somewhere near the end of January? If I have that correct, I can assure you that the boards for February (both of them) were already at capacity.

One of the March boards is I believe where this package will be reviewed. The other potential issue is if teacher recommendations were submitted late or incomplete. The recruiters usually run that to ground but some high schools are better than others.

Lastly, I believe in another post you may have mentioned he is still working on the application for his preferred college? It is worth checking deadlines for submission. Some universities set a March deadline.

GWU_PNS Thanks for info. His portal changed from at recruiter to at NETC in early February. I figured that Feb boards would likely be full before his was finalized. I figured March is likely, but I was hoping to see the "board ready" change by now to atleast let us know that he has a shot. I'd hate for something to be missing and he not know about it to see if he can help get it done faster. That is why I asked and wondered if we should reach out or not yet. If it was November its no biggie, but end of Feb doesn't leave much time if application has a issue.

He got early decision at his preferred school and he has already accepted and deposited. He is going to Old Dominion University and Hampton Roads NROTC regardless of scholarship or not. He is working on his CP application this month to get it in before April 1st if necessary.
