NROTC Scholarship Awarded

My DS is waiting to hear about his NROTC application. He also has an NROTC Prep application out for his #1 school. How does this work? If he is NOT selected for a 4-year, could he still have a chance at the prep program? If he IS selected for the 4-year, does that disqualify him from prep? Are the 2 programs completely separate (as far as selecting participants)? Or do they communicate in some way?

I am assuming you mean the Naval Preparatory Program but I wanted to make sure. The NPP board meets in April for final approval. Basically, if the PNS believes he is a good candidate and the university agrees, then the board is really jist giving a sanity check that the paperwork was filled out properly. The first year of NPP is completely funded by the university. But after that, he would basically be covered by a 4 year national scholarship at that university.

If he were to be selected for the 4 year scholarship (Not the NPP), then the NPP would fall by the wayside.....but he'd still be at his #1 choice....just funded by the Navy.

They could come out by the end of this week but more than likely it will be early next week.

If your portal just updated to reflect all items were submitted, I think your package would show up in one of the March boards.

Does anyone know the status of Nurse Option spots? Have most been filled?

Nurse Option awards trickle out during every board because there are only 18-35 awarded.
I think last year, in my DS's (Class of 2026) there were 34.
This is the most competitive scholarship in all military services AND the Candidate also has to be accepted at a "Direct Admit" Nursing Program, again highly competitive.

Just a slight update on boards, but nothing to get too excited over. The Admiral reviewed and approved the most recent 4 year scholarship results. That happened very late in the afternoon yesterday.

The NSTC team is in the process of loading those results into the database (we call it NETFOCUS), and then they will start sending out email notifications. In theory, it could happen today. But the reality is that the same small team that does this database gymnastics also has to prep all the packages for the next board. And there are a lot of packages left.

So, you can check email and spam boxes over the course of the day, and maybe there will be something in them. More likely though, it won't be until tomorrow in the morning sometime.

For those of you waiting on ISR results, I have been informed that half of the ISR results have been completed. There are others where we are awaiting action by NRC (Navy Recruiting Command). ISR's are initially awarded by the CO of the NTAG, then submitted for review by the NRC Admiral (different than the NSTC Admiral), then back over to NSTC to be in front of a board of PNS folks, who check it one more time for accuracy. Then it heads back out to the student for notification.

So, for the impatient folks, feel free to clickety-click on the website for portal updates, but you will most likely just get a worn out finger and broken mouse.

Are all notifications - including the "you didn't make it this year" emails - out for the February boards... just want to know when to stop checking and wait for March.... thnx

I believe all notifications have gone out. Emails of non selection should have gone out as well.

This year has seen a bit higher number of tier 3 majors so they are having to make sure we stay at or below the 15 percent threshold.

They aren't waiting or holding any up, but when it comes to moving alternates up the list they need to be careful with the calculations. Then you have to factor in as applicants say they will take USNA over NROTC, was that a tier 1 or 2 major? Because if it was, then the percentage has to get rescored. I don't envy the statistician team here.

They have not sent out the updated spreadsheet just yet. I will send something once they do. We are over the halfway mark in terms of scholarships offered and there are 4 boards left.
