I recently completed my NROTC application process including the pft. I would say my overall application is very strong, but what I've read on this forum makes me worry about my pft score. I believe my score was a 261. Is this too low, or do I still have a good chance at a scholarship assuming the other parts of my application are better? I'm wondering because I've read that they don't consider you much if you have anything below a 270.

Are you a high school senior applying or a college student who is applying?

@jszep03 - I am assuming you are pursuing a NROTC-MO? 261 is a decent score. The average for incoming NROTC-MO at my DS's unit was 275+. I would try and improve on it if possible. You can retake the PFT and resumbit if your score improves. What were your individual event numbers (pull up, plank(covid crunch), run time?)

And if you are in fact going for just NROTC and not the Marine Option, I would would not be overly concerned about your score, unless things seems to have changed dramatically this year.

I am applying for the marine option. I don't have enough time to retake the pft before the first selection board, but I should be able to retake it afterwards if I do not receive a scholarship the first time around. I did 16 pull ups and ran 3 miles in 21:50 or something close to that. We were actually able to do crunches and I did 135 in 2 minutes.

Wait and see what happens on the 1st Board. If you are not selected, I would definitely try and improve it. Focus on the pullups - if you go from 16 to 20 - your score goes to 276 - which puts you right in the sweet spot.

Also - the 1st Board has very few awards, so don't get discouraged if you don't get selected. Good luck and congratulations for getting your application submitted for the 1st Board.

Thank you for your input, I will certainly work to get my pull ups and run time better.
