I'm sorry if this has been asked and answered already...

My son is 3Q'd and has 3 nominations to USNA. He completed his NROTC "back up" plan way back in September. We haven't heard anything from anyone. He contacted the Chief he was working with on NROTC and he basically said, "Give it a couple more weeks and then we'll start over again." Huh?? He asked him if there was a problem with his application and was told that he's an outstanding candidate...no idea why we haven't heard anything. Soooo, my question is...do NROTC folks and USNA folks talk? Is it possible that we haven't heard anything from NROTC because there may be an appointment coming? Of course, it's late in the game and we are beginning to wonder about where he'll be next year.

Any thoughts?

Kat

"Give it a couple it a couple more weeks and then we will start over again".....very strange cavalier response. Like starting over again is an option for this fall. I think every recruiter tells each candidate they are outstanding candidates.

Not sure if NROTC scholarship and USNA admissions discuss candidates. My guess is both groups are busy discussing and reviewing their own applicants to schedule meetings to review applicants in common. As noted many candidates on this forum have been awarded NROTC scholarships and have received appointments. And many NROTC scholarship recipients are also waiting to hear from USNA.

What does the NROTC web site say about your application. I recall my daughters page changing a couple of times with different info. Such as, college choice showing, all items received, and in process for board review. A call to NROTC requesting clarification may be in order based on the "start over again" statement"

Kat, my son was in a similar situation last year and was also told by USNA he was an outstanding candidate. He was notified on 3/23 of his Marine option NROTC scholarship, and notified by USNA on 4/15 that he was waitlisted. He accepted the NROTC scholarship about the same time he was told by the USNA that there was no room for him. I don't believe that the two organizations talk. The only area where they share any information, that I'm aware of, is the DODMERB. My son's exam was ordered by USNA, but he was able to submit the results for his NROTC application.

I agree with skc - the "start over" response is an odd one, however, we ran across our share of odd characters during the process and it may not mean anything. Have you tried calling Pensacola? I found them very helpful.
