Greetings,
Since NROTC recently sent out information and dates for NSI, how does the selection process for the iterations go? I have heard that we can pick which dates we want to attend, but I have also heard that it is assigned. Also is this something to coordinate with my unit or is it something that NTSC decides?

I read somewhere that the assignments might not be out until mid-May...not sure where I saw that now. My DS needs session 1 or 2 due to university start dates, but we're also still waiting on USNA. Hard to feel like your whole life is still up in the air!

My son would need one of the first ones to also be able to do CORTRAMID later in the summer. (He's a college programmer who received the national scholarship in January. So he has to go to NSI, and will hopefully also get to do the rising 3/C training as well).

Hopefully they take that into consideration for the kids who are in a similar situation when assigning the NSI dates!

IronmanDaremo, did your son hear that he was able to attend both NSI and CORTRAMID this summer? My son is also college programmer that just picked up the national scholarship. Initially his unit told him that they were requesting an NSI waiver and he should plan to attend CORTRAMID (most likely East due to clearance timing) but last week that changed and he was told that he would be attending NSI. It is not clear to me if is possible to attend both. I think read on another thread there are about 100 Mids in this scenario so wondering if anyone has heard if this is actually an option.

No news as of yet. Son is home on Spring break now, and he did not hear anything other than he has to attend NSI. He's the only college programmer to get the full scholarship this cycle in his unit. The rest of the 4/C were already on scholarship or in the NPP program and had already attended NSI.

He did mention he would need to get a clearance screening at some point to go to CORTRAMID. Knowing how long that takes in my world within the federal government, I was scratching my head with how could they do one in 3 - 6 months unless it was Secret or below.

He is still waiting for them to close out the waiver for DoDMERB DQ, which shouldn't be that hard to process. They just are having a hard time believing he has only had one prescription from our pharmacy in the last 5 years. What can we say??? He rarely got sick, and only had one procedure that required a round of antibiotics!

For those heading to NSI this summer, they will soon be getting a set of documents in the mail. The link below is a draft but I am pretty sure it will look almost identical. I can't over stress the importance of reading it all and following it as closely as possible. As an example, there is a note about not wearing contacts. Candidates must have glasses if needed. People always show up with an excuse. Please don' t test the system.

All units have the document linked here. It is best for applicants to work with their units. Please also note the comments there about DODMERB status. If a waiver has been denied, NSI is a no go. They can still show up at the unit in the fall while appeals are in progress, but not NSI.

I know there will be a lot of questions, but my go to response will be to check with the unit. Each unit is responsible for all pf the candidates on their "61 Report"

The dates will start firming up as the boards wrap up.
