Looked at the videos on the NSI website. Anyone who was there last summer, such as HB2019, can share what this training consists of? From the seconds shown in the video, looks like this is with the Berreta M9 9mm at a man sized paper target at close range (15 meters?). Is the training intended to cover safety and familiarization or actual qualification? What were ranges to target and how many rounds fired? Thanks.
Hello.I went to NSI this past summer. Marksmanship training was over the course of 2 days for me. Im not going to give away any specifics, only what I know to be common information that can be looked up.
The first day, we received safety briefings on how to use the firearm, what instances cause for the use of deadly force, safety precautions. We then moved onto actually practice with a belt and a dummy M9 to practice the stance, drawing speed, and other safety precautions. We practiced firing air pistols which simulate the recoil of live ammo.
The second day, we actually took the M9 marksmanship test with live ammo. By the way, I believe this is the same process that recruits go through so if you look up any boot camp marksmanship training, it'll be the exact same.
The few differences between NSI and Navy boot camp might be the time frame since we had less time to get through all the training as well as at NSI we only received one chance at the test and we did not receive the ribbon for passing the test.
Overall, its not that big of a deal. Just stay calm and pay attention. I never shot or even seen a gun in person before and I passed the marksmanship test there. It'll be like drinking water from a fire hose. Just pay attention and try to soak up all the information you can. Hope this helped.
