Hello. Had a question. So the NSI checklist does not say anything about toiletries. Am I supposed to bring shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, etc?

Again, there is an ROTC specific forum where these questions are better asked (scroll down a little on the main page).

At the Academy, a mid is issued everything they should need for the summer.

You will be taken to get these items when you 1st get to RTC. That is what the $300 is for in the packing list. I recommend you stick with the packing list and just bring those on the list. Everything else you need you will get at NSI. Good luck!

DD is at NSI Cycle 2 now.
Candidates should bring what's on the list: no more, no less.
(Only things DD took not on list were phone and charger, plus dental-retainer hoping it would be allowed at night but knowing it could end up stowed with civilian clothes & phone.)

DD flew there in khakis, polo shirt, nice sweatshirt, sneakers, plain backpack; hair in bun, no makeup, no earrings.

YouTube has a few videos about NSI.
The website "DVIDS NSI" has photos, including few from current cycle-- Candidate arrival, swim qual, firefighting, etc.-- and will live-stream NSI graduations.

To confirm, don't take anything not on the list. DS was at week one and they gave all candidates a mesh toiletry bag with everything they could need for proper hygiene (razor, shave gel, body wash, toothpaste, toothbrush, chapstick, deodorant, hand/body lotion, sunscreen). When he developed sinusitis, the infirmary gave advil, claritin, and flonase. The running shoes that were available weren't the best (DS is a XC runner) so he took the inserts out of the running shoes he brought (that he couldn't use) and stuck them in the shoes they had to purchase. And CERTAINLY do not bring CBD products like someone else did...that will get you an invitation to train elsewhere.

Just texted with daughter who graduated Cycle 2 this morning. She had followed checklist, brought almost nothing extra. On arrival, backpacks were inspected. She was allowed her to stow her book with civilian clothes-- but her lip-balm was thrown away.

Some candidates in my compartment brought their own toiletries (such as deodorant etc) and were able to use it. You’re not going to have a lot of time anyways to get a proper “morning routine”. At most you’ll have 3 min to brush your teeth, shave, and do whatever you need to do to get ready.
