NSI

Do we get paid at NSI? also when is the deadline to accept a NSI session?
Do we get paid at NSI?
Yes. You will receive a per diem for travel days for meals, and travel costs will be reimbursed that aren't initially covered, like travel to/ from your home airport. Additionally there is a usually a small active duty pay reimbursement for the specific days you are training for summer training activities.

also when is the deadline to accept a NSI session?
You'll receive orders of when to participate in NSI but fair warning you may not receive these until a couple of days before departure - it varies. My DS received his orders literally less than a week before, for each summer cruise so far. You'll hear the fun phrase "Semper Gumby" - always flexible is the best way to think of supporting the Navy and it's schedule. Regarding accepting NSI, these will come to you as orders, so follow them in what they say to do to be there and any acknowledgements/ paperwork you need to tackle in their instruction. I don't believe it's an offer for you to consider or accept, more that you have to have all paperwork, requirements tic-tied.

Good luck and arrive mentally, physically ready and resolved to get through it. Thanks for your willingness to serve.

I have heard that some year males have to have their head shaved and other years they don’t. Does anyone know if we will have our heads shaved during NSI?

“To facilitate military training, these items are required to be purchased at Great Lakes for uniformity. A haircut that meets Navy grooming requirements is included in this cost. These items will be purchased through the Navy exchange, you will have exchange privileges while at Great Lakes.”

This makes it seem as though as long as we have a Navy regulation haircut, we are good however I read in previous years people were mislead by the packet. Can anyone confirm?

I wouldn't say that people are mislead. But the CO for NSI can call an audible. So, being candid, if the people showing up look like a Woodstock revival, the buzzing sound you hear will be the Mark 1 Mod 0 standard Navy shears giving the smoothest of smooth hairstyles ever. But it grows back. 😎
