My DS is a 4th at VMI and is attending without an ROTC scholarship....he was alerted right before the holiday break there were AROTC On Campus Scholarships available and they hustled him through the paperwork, testing, interview, etc...bless his soul (sort of LOL) he has done these tasks independently however when we get into the discussion on how we are going to pay for return next year it turns into a debate.
I am not privvy to when it will be decided (or not) and cannot get an answer out of my DS. In the meantime, we are getting the FAFSA done and applying for Financial Aid as usual. We are out of state and paying for him last year, even with financial aid, gave us a pretty decent hit which we are still paying off.
Anyone that may have gotten an on-campus scholarship from the school in the past that can give me some timing ideas? We don't want to be 'those parents' but trying to make sure we don't leave any stones unturned...

My daughter got an campus-based 4-year and this was the time of year that it was made available IIRC. I guess this is that time of year. As to the finality of the thing, I think every battallion is different, so any answer you get here is probably not applicable to your situation (unless it is VMI).

That being said, ROTC scholarships are NOT considered financial aid for purposes of filling out your FAFSA so you can continue on without worrying about whether you will need to adjust based upon the outcome.

Best of luck to you and your son.
