The appointee kit states that we have to have a direct deposit NON-joint bank account. However, I'm 17 and will be 17 until late this year. I have a USAA membership but I haven't been able to open an account. Does anyone have any advice as to what to do?

I don’t know much but I do know that I wasn’t able to make my own account until I turned 18. I bet there’s an exception in there somewhere for those who aren’t 18 yet

same w my DS going to USNA he will be 17 when he shows up so not allowed to open accounts and NFCU wasn't too friendly about the situation

Just as an FYI...my DD had to fill out paperwork when she arrived at BCT. She inadvertently put in our joint checking account number because she thought it was just for the flight refund. It wasn't. Her paycheck was deposited in the joint account. So if you're 17 with a joint account...you can still get your money. Once you're 18, then go get your own account and transfer your direct deposit.

My son just finished his Doolie year, and he also reported in before he turned 18. He has used the same bank account he had in high school, and I am joint on it. It has not caused any issues at all.
