Applied EA to the academy but wasn’t offered an appointment... pretty bummed but not too disappointed, as I have some really good other options on the table (possibility of getting an ROTC scholarship and already admitted to some great state schools). I was wondering if anyone had some insight as to what to do if I’m still interested in the academy (and maybe looking into reapplying next year). I’m sure there are some others in the same boat as myself, so I figured I’d create this thread. Thanks to all who have helped and given insight so far!

My DS was in the same boat as you in 2017...Outright rejection with EA. He embraced his Plan B and will graduate next year from A&M. He did re-apply his freshman year, but at that point, his heart wasn't really in the application process and wanted to stay where he was. Only time can tell for you next year once you are at Plan B and decide which way you want to go. Good luck, and sorry for the news that you received.

All applicants that were denied this year received a letter giving you information on your options. You can contact your AO during the month of January to discuss what you can do to get ready for applying next year.

If you plan to reapply for the next year, you should try to take classes at your Plan B school that would be similar to a 4/c year at USCGA. If you can do well in those classes, it will show that academically you would likely do well at USCGA. They also want to see continued leadership and athletics. Some people self-prep at one of the 3 schools where USCGA sends those who are accepted into the Prep Program.

How did you find out about your declination? Was it by mail, email or phone call? We haven't heard anything as of today and applied Early decision. Thank you

Probably a bear’s den update. Look there first.

Im sorry to hear your news, good for you embracing the plan b!

When did you receive your letter? We havent heard a peep and applied ED

Thank you @Korab, What is the bear's den update?
When you log in to the page where you submitted the application, there would be a link saying "Your application decision is now available online." I assume that's the same letter that gives you information about future options.

Thank you @BravoRomeo. Went there and it says "decision available" but link takes me to the application page but no messages/posts or letter. Ugh. We keep waiting for a letter in the mail or a call but nothing yet.

Go to Bear’s Den, click on Application at the top, in the application portal click on the link Decision status available and you should see a decision

Try using a different browser or device. Don’t count on getting a hard copy. I don’t know that they send out hard copies of anything but acceptances.

Attached are images of my Bear's Den and my application portal, respectively. I would post full pictures but I do not have the time right now to edit out my own name as well as the names of those who wrote my letters of recommendation and administered my PFE. If you would like full-screen screenshots feel free to message me privately and I will find some time tomorrow to blur/cross out any personal information. Additionally, if you are getting a message that "an error has occurred" and you need to clear your browser's cookies and cache, I can let you know how to do that. Hoping you find good news.

My DS went to Marion Military Institute (MMI), did the self-prep program, and was offered an appointment. MMI Service Academy Prep (SAP) reviewed his academy application and developed a plan to improve it to reapply the following year. USCGA sends sponsored cadets to MMI so they trust the school to get the students ready. It’s not a guarantee that you will receive an appointment after completing their program but they provide the tools you need to improve your chances. Best of luck to you!
