I'd like to share some thoughts I had with candidates and appointees. I think it's appropriate as we are winding down on the selection process.

One of the greatest gifts a child could give a parent is to be a better person then we are. You are brighter, faster, and stronger then we are. You are morally better, with a greater sence of compassion and empathy then we possess. Every time we witness you accomplish life challenges better then we can, our level of pride for you is unequalled. You have already done this, appointed or not.

I was speaking to my Daughter last night about her plans if she did not get an appointment to the Naval Academy and she taught me a lesson when she said, "I want nothing more right now then to attend the Naval Academy, but I would hope that 4 years spent at a University would not define who I am for the rest of my life. I would like to think I have more to offer".

Like I said Parents. They are smarter then we are and you should all be very proud. Now if we could only get them to clean their room! It's a disaster!

Your daughter is wise beyond her years.

This reminds me about an excellent book on the manic college admissions process. The book is called "Where You Go is Not Who You'll be" by Frank Bruni.

I highly recommend it to both parents and candidates, to put things into perspective.

My child amazes me everyday with her patience and determination! I have been a nervous wreck through the college application process and she has seemed to take it all with ease. Her outlook is she's done everything in her control to be the best candidate she could possibly be and now it is in someone else's hands. Her Plan B is solid and whatever the outcome with SA's I know she will grab the opportunity presented and run with it! I have seen a more confident and mature young woman grow out of this crazy process.

My DD gives me the eye roll and sighs, then says "Mom if I'm supposed to get in then I will get in." She forgets that she's the one who started this whole thing and had to convince me to get on board!

DS made Dean's list at his Plan B college last semester. I asked him "do you want to reapply to the Academy?"

He said: "No, if I get in, it will just put a year behind schedule to commission."

Thank you for this. Perfect timing as my DS received his TWE this afternoon. Time for me to but away the tissues, get dressed for a Lacrosse game, and get excited for his plan B.

Your very welcome. Good luck to your DS. I'm sure good things will come to this fine young man. And he probably cleans his room!:)

He does! My daughter on the other hand is a different story! What's with these girls and their rooms? Five outfits on the floor at any given time!

Mines so bad with the clothes she is starting to take over the guest room! I have two and half months to get her to get it together before family comes in for graduation and needs a place to sleep!!! If an outfit doesn't work just throw it on the bed, floor, chair, dresser and move on to the next smh

Good Luck him! He will surely do well no matter where he journeys on! Enjoy the end of HS Lax season!

I've been amazed at my DS throughout this whole process. He's done it all by himself (with me cheering, loving and supporting in the background - and FREAKING OUT when he didn't see me). As we got closer to Nominations and Appointments, I couldn't hide my frantic stress from him anymore. "Mom, you're obsessed!" {and my apologies because I know I posted this somewhere else} When I asked how he remained so calm he said, without missing a beat, "That's why I'm going to be an Officer!" Touche. I think EVERY parent on this site can be very proud. These kids, anyone who even endeavors to apply to a SA, are the best of the best. Good luck!
