Hi all-

Question- my DS is over the weight limit but not by much. He was also a 4 year football player (linebacker) and part of his schools powerlifting team so he is a big kid. Will the muscle mass be considered during medical (which hes already had) or is there another process to determine body/fat ratio? Thank you and apologies if this was already asked somewhere!

My son was under weight but he still passed DoDMERB. Later, his SA sent him a body/fat form to fill in. A trip to school health room would do the job.

My football player/wrestler/lifter Mid was over. Nothing happened at his medical exam. Prior to his appointment offer, he received AMI to have his neck taped (Dump that into the search feature and you will get a bunch of similar stories). It’s pretty common for athletes.

Oh ok. Never heard of neck tape- I’ll have to look that up! Thanks for this!!

It’s a way of measuring/determining BMI. A tape measure, school nurse, and boom 💥 your done. Easy peasy.

Yes same with my son. He was a couple pounds over but in great shape- plays hockey and is very muscular. Nothing happened at the Dodmerb exam but he then had to have school nurse measure waist and neck. Sent that in and it was approved the same day.

The army has chopped off the neck starting last year. Now it is just belly diameter and weight. I don't know if or how that applies to SA applicants.
