Afternoon y’all. Does anyone have an R-day packing list they might be willing to share? I know admissions will send an official one out at some point, but I’d love to get a jump on things if I can. Thanks in advance

First thing that comes to mind is a fairly stout, carry on type bag, soft sided but not flimsy, black is probably best. You'll probably be using it for laundry and travel etc. It will come in very handy for at least a couple of years. Find one you like. Relatively simple is best, meaning 8 pockets is better than 20. Good, easily used and durable zippers.

I have found this packing list from 2018, but I have heard the 3rd Admissible Mailing should come out soon which will have the packing list. If you want, you could also use a list from the other service academies.

My son bought this bag, and it worked well for R Day.

Don’t use a list from a different academy! They are not the same!
Alright, good to know. I was looking at the USAFA class of 2025 appointee booklet for packing ideas, but I will keep in mind that they are likely not the same.

You will be fine to wait for the official packing list. There is nothing so pressing that you need to get ahead on the packing list - the lone exception being to maybe go ahead and order boots and shoes now so you have time to break them in. I would also recommend a new pair of running shoes that you can also break in before Beast.

I can text y’all the packing list I have from last year. The 2021 one, you should get a packing list in mid May- June fyi

The above list posted by CrossMT was the packing list for class of 2022, my firstie. The photo below show how we packed. However, we realize that white socks would get dirty quickly during beast. I would pack 1or 2 pairs of white socks just in case (WP will provide you socks and underwear but the quality is not as good as the ones you pack). Instead I would pack more thick black athletic type Gold Toe crew socks. 10 -14 pairs will give you more than 1 week wear and you may be able to wear them with your boots if no rucking involve. I also packed several pairs of Fox River boot socks, my cadet prefers this brand. You will find new appreciation to have the moisture wicking undies @ beast. Best Wishes 1651393665674.png

The Ziplock bags are key…use one or two gallon sized bags. There will be a moment in R Day when you are in a room standing in a series of lines on little blocks of tape and you will be directed to move your belongings from your home bag to your newly issued Army bag. You will be thankful that the baggies let you do this neatly & quickly. You won’t draw attention to yourself by being last or dropping things.

My guys eached carried a black duffel bag w a should strap. The big brother is a captain now and still uses that duffle—he visited for a couple days last week & we discussed how useful that bag was on R Day and now.

Agreeing with this especially.
My son is a plebe, and this year he brought all his white socks home and asked for a lot more black socks. He said black socks are the most useful socks for WP.

He likes the socks from Feetures—
High Performance Cushion Crew in black.

Also he really appreciated having lots of underwear. Having many pairs of underwear and socks cuts down on how often you will need to do laundry. They joke that the standard issue underwear is only good for shining their shoes. Haha
