Our son has accepted his appointment to the USNA. His older brother attends the USMMA. We attend parents weekend for the USMMA and the Plebes were allowed to spend overnight away from the academy.

Question, for the USNA on Parents Weekend, are the Midshipmen allowed to spend overnight away from the academy as well?

Looking forward to learning all about another academy!!

David

I've been led to believe it is Cinderella Liberty on Friday and Saturday and 18:00 on Sunday.

Hopefuilly, someone will correct me if I'm mistaken...

Overnights are earned and not typically announced in advance.

PPW has not had an overnight in the last two class years. Last one was for Class of 2010. I would not bank on it.

Friday night liberty 10pm; Saturday night at midnight; and Sunday 1800. On Sunday you want to have your Plebe on the yard by 17:30 as they will need to sign in and usually there is a uniform change before formation. Formation begins at 18:00.

Unless there is a sudden change of command at USNA, you would do well to expect the liberty hours given by Profmom. Keep in mind that each night, they will need to be inside Bancroft Hall well before the scheduled time for liberty to expire (15-30 minutes). Also remember that there will be roughly 1200 Plebes all trying to get back on the Yard, and plan your travel time accordingly.

Returning to the Yard after PPW Liberty

PPW Class of 2012....both Friday and Saturday evenings we had our plebe back on the Yard with 45 min to spare which created a false sense of confidence when Sunday evening rolled around......end of Sunday Liberty was 1800 hrs., we departed our hotel ,located next to the Annapolis Mall, about 1705 hrs.(usually an easy 15 min drive to Gate 8) . Unfortunately there had been a major wreck on the Bay Bridge that morning and traffic was still bumper to bumper on US 50 approaching the USNA exit......we traveled 2.5 miles in 25 minutes.....long story cut short...our Midn finally bailed out about 1/2 mile short of Gate 8 ....running in uniform along the edge of the stalled Sunday traffic with many other paniced plebes......luckily for many of them , generous and understanding parents already inside the gate loaded them up , u-turned and deposited them at Bancroft just in time for formation.......major lesson learned....get your plebe back on the Yard "extra" early for "parental piece of mind" and so they're not "fried" for being late !
