Only Day 2 of Swab Summer and already looking so forward to Parents Weekend. Does anyone have the schedule of events from last year? Is the Eagle in port in New London for tours? Thanks!
This is huge: Sports and extra-curriculars can also do this, and if you raised a nice kid she might just take on someone else's duty so they can get away. The schedules are very tight and not very limber, so as a parent just do as much advance work as you can and stay loose for late changes. Semper gumby.Just something to keep in mind. This is also a reason not to "surprise" your cadet by visiting that weekend (or any weekend really). If they don't know you are coming, they might have duty and not be able to leave campus.
Once Swab summer is over you can also encourage your swab to volunteer for duty early and often so that they have a better chance of not having to stand duty. It’s harder to ask for someone else to take your spot when you’ve done none of your hours you need to do.Also keep in mind that your cadet might have duty one of the days of Parents Weekend. There are 8 companies, so each company has duty every 8 days. Your cadet should know the schedule before the semester starts. If their company has duty one of those days, then they might have duty for an hour or more that day. If they have duty AT ALL on any given day, then they cannot leave campus. You could visit them on campus that day during time they have free, but they would not be able to leave. However, usually cadets whose parents are not visiting will be kind enough to swap hours (or just voluntarily take hours) for those cadets whose parents are visiting.

I would also add that they may have made arrangements to visit their sponsor family.Just something to keep in mind.
