My son received his acceptance on 5/27/21. He was pulled from the waitlist. I'm assuming we'll get the BFE soon with all the things he needs to do. I read somewhere that he needs a passport on day 1 of swab summer. I don't think we'll be able to get it by 6/28/21. Does anyone have any information about this and any other things we can get started on. Thanks for any help. I can believe how nervous I am. I think I'm more nervous than he is.
 
Congratulations!!! Contact your admissions officer! I am sure they will help ease your mind!! I would recommend you order copies of his birth certificate since you need to send one to the academy and one to the passport processing people....I'd be more nervous about not having that documentation:) We did the expedited passport and it still took about 6 weeks....
 
There are ways to get a passport in 2-3 weeks. Go online amd search. Some 3rd party companies have agreements and can assist.
 
He does need a passport, but if he contacts his AO and lets him know the situation it should not be a problem. Except for last year, the SWABs have 1 week on Eagle during their summer training. Sometimes that week might include a port in Canada. This year, all ports for the SWAB sailing weeks are in the U.S. so it should not be an issue if he does not have it.

Last year, a large number of SWABs showed up without their passports because passport processing had shut down due to covid. We had sent our daughter's in mid-February for renewal and it wasn't processed until July.

There were definitely cadets last summer that did not have a passport on day 1. I don't believe Eagle is taking the swabs anywhere that requires a passport this summer, so your cadet should be okay, but let your AO know and get the paperwork started as soon as you can. As far as extra birth certificates, that is a wonderful thing if you can order them. We ordered 3 when my daughter was born, but my son was born overseas and they will only give you one. I made sure I used a trackable envelope (priority mail) when I mailed his to the Academy, and stressed a little bit over it until they gave it back to him after he reported.

Hi Greystone412 my son received his acceptance on 5/27/21 as well. I am going to look into an expedited passport as his is expired. I will let you know if I find out a way to do it.

DS pulled from waitlist to CGAS. His current passport is also expired. Now to reapply and expedite. Have you been able to get a timely passport appointment? I'm having doors shut all over the place. Thanks for any insight.

Contact his AO. As long as it has been ordered he should be fine.
Used to be that Swabs would sail to the Caribbean however I believe that since COVID they just stay local.

We were able to get an appointment for the passport on/about June 10th. We expedited it but we won't get it until the middle of July at the earliest. I contacted the admissions office and they didn't seem too concerned about him not having the passport on June 28th. They were more concerned about all the forms being filled out and mailed and having his birth certificate on day 1.
