Perry coached the Mids for four seasons.

June 27, 2013

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Steve Perry has resigned as head coach of the men's lightweight rowing team, Naval Academy Director of Athletics Chet Gladchuk announced Thursday (June 27). Perry served as head coach of the Mids' lightweight team for four years.

"I have appreciated the opportunity and enjoyed the privilege of working with the lightweight crew. This is a decision that is best for me and my family," said Perry.

"Coach Perry has been a great friend and his passion for rowing is unmatched. After many long talks about his future, we support and understand his decision and wish him the best of luck," said Navy heavyweight head coach and director of rowing Rob Friedrich.

Perry assumed head coaching duties of the lightweight team in August 2009. He previously served as the Mids' lightweight assistant coach from 2003-05, guiding the freshman crew to a 33-1 record in three seasons. His highlights as head coach included a second place finish by the varsity at the 2010 IRA National Championships and the varsity four winning the IRA title in 2012.

A national search for a new head coach will begin immediately.

Thanks for posting. Interesting development. I thought something was up after Coach Perry failed to attend the reception for the 2017 recruiting class on I-1, and also failed to show at the post-oath gathering on I-Day.
