Hello, on the USAFA Class of 2024 handbook, I have read that personal computers are not allowed upon entry into the academy. However, I have seen that other cadets in their sophomore and junior year's that have brought personal computers. Is this true and what are the restrictions dealing with personal computers?

Yes, personal computers will eventually be permitted. Your personal computer will likely have not be able to access the USAFA network and other academic resources, so most cadets who bring their personal computers for gaming, etc. will likely purchase a Boingo subscription for internet access.

I'm in the class of 2024, and I have 2 personal computers, along with my government one. What (I'm assuming) the handbook is saying is to not bring a computer to basic as you could risk damaging it, and you have no use for it. You can use a hotspot, or some squads have their own wifi. As FMHS-79 said, you can't really connect to some USAFA networks, and you NEED your government computer to do some quizzes and tests etc. It's very doable to have a personal computer your doolie, but just have someone bring it out during Parent's Weekend (If y'all have one, hopefully), or winter break which is what I did.

According to the CS&D Table 4.1, unrecognized doolies aren't allowed to have personal computers or gaming consoles until after recognition.

A lot of people have them anyways, and you probably won't get caught and nobody really cares too much about that rule, but that's the rule.
