A few weeks ago someone posted a picture of all the gear given to plebes on I day laid out on a bed. Anyone remember what thread that was in? I can’t seem to find it. Thx.

I don’t have a picture of it all laid out, but here’s a picture of what it looks like being carted around with your issued transport cart.

@shock-n-awe .... Do the Mids get to keep the Hand-Trucks/Carts, or are they just used during In-processing then stored to be reused next year, etc.

There is a whole back story.

One year, Plebes were allowed to use the carts instead of carrying all their gear as in past years. The photos went viral. Other SA folks gleefully pounced, and continue pouncing, to tease about this, while USNA grads just groan. It’s schoolyard bashing fun. It wasn’t the plebes’ fault they were opened up to inter-SA ridicule.

It’s the same do-it-the-hard-way approach you see in the Pentagon, known for the awful working hours, where if you decide to leave for the day around 7 pm, someone is bound to say “early day, must be nice?”

> Was it a one time thing ? I thought USNA doubled down and did it the following year, but perhaps people just reposted the original pictures. Frankly, the was as much inter-class ridicule as there was inter-SA.

I recall there was a good explanation, ie.. hauling alot of stuff from one side of the Yard to the other., etc, and I suspect someone on the 'Dants staff got a NAM for coming up with the brilliant solution, but my original opinion stands --it was a solution to a problem that really didn't exist.

Now we need to remember where that photo is of all the Plebe gear laid out, to be responsive to the OP. I remember seeing it, but have no contextual clues to help me search the many threads that would be a likely home.

They had carts last year, too. From Alumni Hall to Red Beach via the bus. Then they gave them up.

Go and follow the Mid Store on FB. My guess is, if you do a search of previous posts you, you will find it there.

The Plebes used to toss all the gear issued at Alumni in a truck and were bussed over to Bancroft. It kept things moving as quickly as possible and worked for decades. When they had some of the roads closed for building the new Cyber Center and other repairs, this didn’t work. I believe the carts used to be issued with the computers in recent years, so they issued them early for this. The goal was to keep them moving from the Alumni as quickly as possible. I don’t disagree this could of been handled differently, like simply giving them a sea bag instead laundry bags at Bancroft, just stating what I know of and have seen working some I Days over the years.

Maybe it was in a thread about care packages or what to pack on I day, because it showed all the supplies from Tide stick to toiletries. I remember look at it and being amazed that PTB really doesn't have to pack a thing and how nice it is for my only DS to not go to a “normal” college where we spend a week packing him up to go fill a dorm room 🤔👍.
Anyway, I was describing it to DS and he wanted to see it. Alas, I can’t find it.

To clarify, all of the items in the picture above were issued and not sent through care packages?

That was my question. Especially the calculator. I thought one of the checklists said to bring one for placement exam.
