pilot slot wait listed

C1C son is waitlisted for a pilot slot, about 15 names ahead of him. With about 60 days to go, is there a deadline when AFSE's need to be finalized before graduation? He is sloted for nav/weapons systems and ready to take that on to serve, but being a pilot is his dream job.

Any thoughts on his chances?

I was told that many CSO's eventually go to pilot training and become pilots anyway. After how many years I do not know

Our son had two friends find out graduation day that they got pilot slots, and two more who found out during their 60 day leave after graduation. There are always people losing slots for medical or other reasons. While there are no guarantees, I think he has a decent shot. Keep in mind that even as a Nav/CSO he will go to IFS and learn to fly the DA-20.

It's AFSC, and his chances are so-so.
Either way, it isn't a bad job!

I too met several navs going through UPT--both were 1LTs going to junior captains, so 5ish years on the job.

just wanted to close this thread...my son was notified by his AOC last week that he'll be going to UPT. Very happy kid. He'll be based at Columbus AFB and will start training in September.
