Hello, I saw another thread on here about placement tests(math specifically) prep for USMA, but I wanted to know if USAFA's placement test will give out the same mathematical concepts(mostly trig, calc, and other precalc concepts) and if I should go over the ones sent in the thread for USMA or should study using an alternative source?

Fwiw, my DS did not study for the placement tests. For reference, he took AP Calc and got a 5 on Calc BC + AB his Senior year. The first placement test was at home in the Spring and didn't seem hard. The second one was during BCT so there was no opportunity to study, he hadn't seen calc in a few months and he was at BCT. He did well enough and was offered Calc III.

My guidance to him was to not to study. Its a placement test - you want an accurate assessment of your abilities as much as USAFA. It doesn't change anything about your status as an appointee - it just helps guide them in placement. I don't know what level of math you hope to get placed into, but you want it to be the "right" one for you. Btw, if they offer you to validate a class, you can choose not to if you want.

I agree with no additional study beyond finishing strong with 8th semester - to include studying and taking AP exams - it can only help reaffirm your knowledge. Start to transition and focus on BCT preparation. You will be placed appropriately, and that is better than being on the edge and then getting in over your head. My DD only took Calc AB and got a 5. She was placed in Honors/Advanced Calc II. Think Goldilocks, not the hottest bowl of porridge. The higher the placement in itself isn't as important as what you do at the level and scheduling that's right for you. It isn't a factor for invitation to apply or selection to Academy Scholars Program or making Dean's Ace or A-List.
