Hi.
I'm heading out to AFA in June and I want to play soccer at the Academy.

I have contacted the coaches and asked them to come and watch me at a few different showcases they were attending. They have seen me play about half a game but they haven't seemed too interested. I am on the MN reigning State Champion team, I've gotten many different awards for soccer, and have been captain on both my HS and Club team. I feel like i am a good candidate for their Women's soccer program, but....

If the coaches haven't really sounded interested in me via e-mail, does that mean I'm not cut out for the team? What is the best way to make the team? Pursuing the coaches, meeting with them, and contacting them? Or just walking on at try outs?

Thanks!

i'm not 100% sure about the IC soccer, though my boyfriend decided not commit to the ic team, and his roommate is on the team, so i can ask them more information if you would like.

the only thing i do know is that there is a club soccer team.

it's pretty much impossible to walk on unless your amazingly good.

we don't know how the coaches think.

they will let you know if they are interested in you.

Don't give up hope, most coaches have their list of players done in the fall for this coming year. You may just be, behind in the process/timeline. They will have open tryouts, cadets have walked on to teams. They will offer soccer as an intermural sport during BCT, get out there and play. Maybe someone can chime in on if the womens soccer team has a JV team? Good Luck and Congratulations!

There is no JV team but you can definately try out for the team. It is rare that they keep a walk on but perhaps you are good enough to play D1 soccer. When you go to try outs be aggressive in your play, just agree with the coaches and be friendly. Be in great shape too.

During BCT you will have intramurals and you will want to play soccer during that time. All of the soccer recruits will be playing and this will be your chance to get to know some of them and to compare your skills. The Academy typically takes a lot of recruits and cuts most of them so make sure you are working on your skills until you leave for BCT.

Stick with the Basics and don't expect the upper classman to be friendly, you are there trying to take playing time away from them. You probably won't out shine the upper classman because they have played in front of the coach for at least a year already. All you need to do is beat out the other Basics.

Before you leave for BCT call the coaches and tell them you want to try out. Ask them about bringing your cleats and what you need to do.

Good Luck and be confident in your skills!

guy in my squad was actually recruited for soccer, but they still have tryouts between those people after BCT. he ended up not making it beside being recruited. I don't know if the girl's team works like that, but it's possible. I think you can still try out for it though, and i say definitely go for it. coaches don't know everything!

My son is on the soccer team and was somewhat recruited last year. The coaches did not seek him out, my son seeked them out. They came to watch him play at a couple of premiere tournaments, CASL and Disney. He was listed on their recruited list but not as one of the highly touted players. He made the team and played JV his first year. He is getting ready to start his 2nd year and he has a good chance at starting or seeing significant playing time this year. Go out and try, do your best and good things will happen. Hope this helps.
