Plebe Summer Typical Day

Wake up, PEP, shower, breakfast. Then classes, shooting, uniform issues, or any of the other dozen activities. Then formation and then lunch. Afternoon is another follow on of this. Then sports period. Shower, formation, dinner. After dinner is usually drill or a lecture or something for the entire regiment. Then personal time (30 minutes to shower), Blue and Gold and then bed.

During any of those times there could be mixed in Company Officer time or whatever they call it today. It’s whatever detailers want to do with that time for the most part. Also there are larger evolutions they cycle all Plebe Platoons through like the range, confidence course, o course, e course. Also during all of this detailers are running Plebes to the doctor’s appts, managing watch schedules, getting Plebes to missed uniform issue (maybe they were sick), and a variety of other things.

This! Exactly what I don’t miss about being a detailer. Especially when several of these things happen at the same time. At least you don’t get yelled at by midshipmen—But wait, instead you have to make sure you’re performing to the satisfaction of actual Officers, Chiefs, and Gunnys who rightfully won’t hesitate to tear into a detailer screwing up. A much better experience as a detailer, but still quite a challenge. To any mids lurking, I highly recommend going through Plebe Summer again as a detailer! It was the only experience the Academy gave me in managing teams, making hard decisions with real consequences under pressure and with incomplete information, handling friction, planning logistics and watching those plans fall apart upon execution, and dealing with staff with different personalities (Try convincing a salty CS1 in King Hall that your plebes need more food, not my favorite conversation to have).

Ah, bringing back some memories reading this thread and then watching I-Day earlier this week. Good and bad ones 😂
