Portal updated to turned down

District and State are optional items listed in the list of those who received appointments. So some users are actually voluntarily disclosed them. It is really between two users. I usually don't ask but I am very open to answer either privately or publicly.

I doubt this most valuable user "disappearance" has anything to do with these questions.
The person, and another valuable poster, was doxxed by someone who was able to identify them through their postings.

If you put enough information on this site - someone can identify you. It doesn’t just have to be the person asking the innocent question.

Years ago someone didn’t like me and threatened to have his son at USNA make my son’s plebe summer unbearable to the point of quitting. He was able to figure out who my son was, and my son was confronted by other mids for my posting. My son laughed it off, said I had good intentions, and always supported mids. They left him alone.

Can't understand anybody would dislike such a nice guy like you, let alone with intention to harm your son.

We always recommend that users be cautious posting any personal information. It’s why we have a disclaimer when folks sign up to not use names (used to happen alot). I also know we have a lot of parents on this site who are posting info about their children. All of it is done with good intention. But we always recommend to be error on the side of caution. I know everyone is anxious to see who is getting appts from their state/district.

Thank you. I do have a plan B at my local 4 year. I will be reapplying for next year for USNA as well. It's not a failure, just attempt 1!
Let me know if you have any questions about the re-application. I can express some of the things that I did well. This is my third and final attempt (either way) and I've gotten to know the application far better than most ever want to. Just shoot me a PM if you want.

I'm sorry, I guess I don't know the etiquette for this forum. I am asking because we are from Tennessee also. #patientlywaiting.
Don't apologize. You can go onto several Facebook pages from different USNA-related interests, from 2028 appointees to various regional parent and alumni support groups. People post not only their names, but where they live, and of course since it's Facebook, plenty of pictures! There is no privacy on the internet so don't feel bad about asking for congressional district.

Lots of great kids at USNA come out of TN. Hope yours is one of them.

Thank you. We are still patiently waiting.

I don't disagree with you, but I would add that there are lot of great kids from all over (I realize you weren't trying to imply only TN). My plebe has made friends with midshipmen, male and female, from Georgia, Florida, Maryland, New York, New Jersey, New Hampshire, and Maine. I've met them all and it gives me great hope for the future of this nation. I'm hoping that circle expands west. :)

Question for the group:

Given the scenario where a MoC is nominally allotted 1 appointment per year, what is the USNA procedure for the remaining available appointments each year that get a class up to strength?

Is there a nationwide pool of “Round 2” contestants? What if a primary nominee has appointment offers to USNA & the other SAs but ultimately chooses another SA?

I hope I’m neither oversimplifying it or confusing my question.

My own experience was too long ago to be relevant, plus I came from NAPS after spending a few years as an enlisted Sailor.

Totally agree. I was't trying to imply TN had a monopoly on great kids. I saw where she was from TN and was just trying to convey that I have met a lot of great kids from USNA who were from TN. I was trying to be supportive and encourage the poster.

They come from the National Pool. Top 150 receive an appointment. Often, this is how you see vey highly qualified candidates get in from very competitive areas. After the 150, USNA can pick whom they want to round out a class. They must be 3Q with a nom to be appointed. This is also how multiple candidates from the same MOC can receive appointments.

It’s a puzzle that constantly changes. In the scenario listed above, a principal who chooses another SA, USNA would see if someone on the slate has received an appt. Maybe it’s a Presidential or from the National Pool. They could move them to the MOC spot, which then moves another spot to open from wherever they moved from. The domino effect can keep going. Or, maybe the MOc gave a ranked list. #1, declines for whatever SA. USNA would then look at #2 in this scenario. Or maybe #2, has another MOC nom. They could be moved and then the other MOC slated moves. The scenarios could go on for awhile.

Thanks much!

All we know is our MoC doesn’t rank their slate. We’re right smack dab in the middle of the REAL home of the Army-Navy Game, so both schools are highly visible to all of our HS students throughout the region.

Break out the Magic 8 Ball & Ouija Board (I’m dating myself, I know!) 😎

Re-reviewing a slate would depend…particularly of WHEN a candidate declines a USNA appointment. If early on, it’s easier for USNA to do some maneuvering, but if we are talking on May 1, then they might not go back and review to slate, especially if it would complicate matters too much. Classes don’t officially get “charged” until the summer, so as Hoops mentioned, they could make some other shifts.

This is one of those things that falls into the category of trying not to reverse engineer since it isn’t in anyone’s control.
