Portal

I tell students to concentrate on three things during this 'time of waiting': 1) Focus on staying in shape, or even improving on your current PFT/CFA numbers, 2) Keep-up on your academics (and avoid senior-itis!), and 3) Commiserate with and support your friends and schoolmates who are coping with the same 'waiting' as you are hoping to gain admissions and scholarships to their school(s). I promise it will help!

My son has a great backup and part of me thinks he might actually be happier going with plan B...I'm just ready to KNOW and be able to make plans! I know we're all ready for that!
My back up is Auburn University, and I’m the same way as your son. I really want USNA, but I’m ready to know either way bc I have to start making other plans!

My son logged onto his portal from my computer. For a few days it populated his username and password and I was able to “peek” As much as I wanted. The computer updated and now I can’t “peek” to see the status 🙈. we are on vacation and he said he will look when we get back. I can’t stand it🙈

Yes THIS! She’s fine either way. Both paths lead to a commission. I’m the anxious one 🤦‍♀️

Do we think the portal not updating means anything? Or is it just updating slower now?
I’m starting to think that it’s just updated slower now. It’s March and they’ve decided that it doesn’t need to update every hour on the hour now. I could be wrong though.

My portal hasn't been updated since February 25th...not something to worry about right?
Most likely not. At first I thought, "Oh great, they stopped updating it because there will be no updates..." But it is happening to multiple candidates, so I wouldn't worry.

I'm curious about what it even means to be "updated." Does it mean they've looked at the application again - and if it shows "Complete - Pending Review" - there is still a chance since we haven't been eliminated? At this point have the MOC slates been filled, and we are waiting to see if we will be one of the lucky few 150 from the MOC slates that weren't selected? What's the method behind the update?

I know that multiple appointments roll out in March, so I don't think every slate has been filled. I think the "Last Updated" just literally means the last time the portal refreshes or reloads on their end.

I do not think we on the forum have any clue how the IT system works for portal updates (unless there is someone here who is on the IT team). We can only conjecture knowing that there was a point where candidates were actually able to see when the admissions team updated status to "MoC notification," or something like that, which was an INTERNAL thing, not something the candidate was supposed to see!

And of course, everyone reporting their status changed to LOA, even if they had no conditions to meet, right before their status changed to Fully Qualified Offer of Appointment, or whatever it says.

Remember, this is a new portal as well. It is going to have glitches.

Bottom line? Take a deep breath. Go for a run/swim/walk. If you are an adult anxious about your kid, grab a beer (or 6) or a glass (bottle) of wine. Having lived through it last year already and revisiting it again this year, I can tell you these next few weeks leading up to April 15th are gonna be patience testing ones!

^ What difference does it make ? How many angels can dance on the head of a pin ?

^ This ... worry about things you can control. There is no reason to worry about how often the portal updates, or check your status more than once a day. I can honestly say, in all my long years as a BGO -- nobody has missed I-day because they weren't aware of their Offer.

Do they send you an email when they change your application status to rejected or accepted?
Per my regional admissions counselor, yes, an email will be “immediately sent notifying you of the change in status. However, some on this forum have stated otherwise. Some have found out via snail mail, others via portal update.
