So, lately I've been looking forward to what intramurals/competitive clubs/sports I might play next year at West Point (assuming that my medical waiver is approved and I'm cleared to go). If possible, I would definitely like to join the powerlifting team. I powerlifted through all four years of high school and would consider myself a fairly decent lifter, though I will admit that with a knee surgery and an off-year I've likely slipped a bit.

I was hoping to get some input from anyone who is familiar with the powerlifting team at West Point on what it takes to join the team and how all of that works. I went to the team's page on the website and sent an email to the address listed for the coach (about a week ago) but haven't gotten a response.

I really hate to bump this, but I'd love to get any information if there's anyone that wouldn't mind offering it. Does anyone know anything about the West Point powerlifting team, or similar competitive teams like it?

Sorry, I don't know a whole lot about the team. I know they do compete, but I don't know if they have authos or not, or when they hold tryouts.

Hmm. Other than the team's page on the website and emailing the coach (I don't want to repeat email him with no response), do you have any idea where I could find out about that? Or will I just have to wait until I show up?

Does it really matter? You can't do it during Beast and there is a club night for plebes in the early fall that will cover all that with actual club/team members.

If/when you come for an overnight visit, ask your host to find somebody on the team to talk to.

It only matters in that I'm interested in it and knowing one way or another if I would be able to do it will change the way I work out in preparation. I won't be going for an overnight visit (can't afford the airfare at the moment), so I guess I'll just wait until the fall. Thanks for the info!

Your preparation needs to be for Beast, not for powerlifting that will begin some two months later in the fall.
