I remember being scared witless of anyone called "XO" as a junior officer. As I was detaching from an aide tour on a flag staff to head to my first XO tour, the admiral had a fireside chat with me. He reminded me not to look around for the XO, when I heard the XO being hailed. He warned me it would feel weird, but just walk the walk, and it would become a second skin in about a week. And it did. I got used to seeing people skitter away in the distance. [emoji6]

At PPW while waiting for our Plebe there was a LT Commander standing with a group of family as the Plebes started filing by. After the 4th or 5th salute he escorted them out of the path of the oncoming Plebes.

On another note, while leaving a downtown restaurant some guys in civies yelled to DD, "you don't have to Plebe your cover here." Which had to be explained to us. So many rules, so much to learn.

I think the order from a superior Officer in this situation is "Carry on"

An officers worst nightmare is a walk down Stribling during class change periods... they could get tendinitis with the amount of salutes required. Mids know this and ensure to get as many salutes in as possible to annoy them!

My heart was full and happy after PPW. I had brought my DS "civies" for our (very secluded) Airbnb. I even mentioned it, he looked me in the eye and said, "INTEGRITY, Mom, Integrity!" Best story: He needed to use the restroom (think #2, think POOP). A company mate told him he had 10 minutes. Not correct. When they lined up and found him missing, they all went to the bathroom to "help" him by cheering him on! "PUSH Mr. ___. PUSH. YOU GOT THIS" etc... SO when he came out of the restroom, there were his 39 company mates and detailers in 2 lines for him to walk through. They were SILENT - until he raised his arms up in VICTORY. Everyone cheered! SO, all weekend when he needed to use the bathroom, we said, "We're NOT cheering for you!"
