So I'm confused, I got an email the other day for the PCQ update. I opened my portal and it said your application is competitive. Then I had to open it up when I had a meeting with my college councilor for the first time and the status changed to pending review. I'm concerned and wondering if anyone could shine light on the situation.

In the portal there should be a little section with some ***'s that explains the different status during the application process.
You have been deemed competitive, but you are not an official candidate yet. Your status will change to candidate once the "pending review" has been completed and you have been deemed a fit candidate.
This usually takes some time and you have clearly started your application for the class of 22 quite early.
The academy are still busy reviewing applications for class of 21, so hang tight and don't worry.

My DS portal page was the same. Beginning of March said 'Competitive', now states 'Pending Review' after opening yesterday after updating a yes/ no answer that was initially answered incorrectly. Is this just an automated response due to the change made in PCQ? I would hope it does not change his 'competitive' status he previously had.

I don't think that there would be any issues since your DS corrected the mistake he made, if not, you can always give them a call and try to sort it out.
Your DS has begun the application for the class of '22 very early. It may be pending review for a while because right now the Academy are under pressure to finish reviewing all of the many applications for the class of '21.

Keep in mind that once your DS PCQ is reviewed and he is deemed competitive, he MUST complete his application within 3 months.

Not quite true about the 3 month timeframe after being deemed competitive on PCQ. Once you are deemed "competitive" in your PCQ, you wait until July when they will upgrade you to Candidate status. From that point, you will have around 4 months to complete all the steps of the full application. This, according to a letter we received in our portal mailbox on March 14, which was 3 days after DS did his PCQ. Mind you, his status toggled back and forth a couple of times between "Pending Review" and "Competitive". Maybe if you make a slight change to the PCQ, the system sees it as a revision that requires someone in the admissions office to look it over again. But as long as your info has basically not changed, or has improved, it should register as "Competitive" again within a few days.

My portal said that on March 1st, because I applied to the Summer Seminar (which I got accepted!!!). Anyways, the application said "competitive", but then the next day I looked at it, it said "pending review". About a week later, it changed back to "competitive"! Just wait a little bit and you should be good!

Yes. That has been our experience. The other day DS portal went back to 'Competitive'. Funny though, wonder why it does that?
