Can USMA Cadets, or Cadets in general, attend the Pre ranger course at fort drum? I saw this as a MIAD (think I got that acronym correct) I believe listed on the database. It noted 5 slots for PRC @ Drum, which makes little sense to me as the purpose of PRC is to provide a testing environment to send soldiers to Ranger school. It is OML based and they give out a finite amount of slots to RS.

Cadets can’t go to RS so….

No you cannot, that is most likely an old document that you are looking at. MIADs have been cut back significantly in the last few years. Options are limited to Air Assault, Airborne, CDQC, Sapper, Space, MRT, and Basic Mountaineering.

The course is open to all MOSs and to anyone who volunteers. Couldn’t a ROTC Cadet go if their Cadre got them the appropriate paperwork?

I only answered from the POV of a USMA cadet. I do not know the details of ROTC summer training.

So, what is the process for the MIAD? When do you know which MIADs will be offered for the summer? Do you have to pass a PT assessment? When does that take place? Is there a month when cadets each year are briefed on the upcoming MIADS? How are they arranged?

We also have the MIAD to Sackhere Mountain School (only for Russian speaking male cadets)

They send out a form for you to rank preferences. YMMV when you find out. No more PT tryouts but there are train ups through out the year. Again, depends when your trainups are. No briefings thankfully on upcoming MIADs.
