Preliminary Application Question

And here we go, the roller coaster ride begins. Thanks again everyone.

A few questions...

1. I know that if you submitted a NASS application, there is no need to submit a preliminary, but how would admissions know we are applying for Class of 2021? Is there some kind of confirmation that lets us know that our NASS application has been reviewed for the preliminary application?Sorry if that didn't make sense...

2. If our NASS application wasn't very strong (didn't put ACT scores in and wrote a very rushed/sloppy essay), should we submit a preliminary application?

Thank you

All those accepted to NASS become official candidates; those not accepted to NASS will still have their information screened for candidacy (official candidate letters/emails? and instructions do not get sent out normally until late May/June). Do not submit a PCQ if you submitted a NASS application (the NASS essay doesn't matter for the actual application). To update USNA on admission test scores, simply include USNA's codes either when signing up for the test or if sending in a score report (after the fact).

Hopeful and Thunder -- Best of luck to both of you! One very strong recommendation: If you haven't already, get on the websites for your US Senators and your Congressman and learn about their nomination process NOW. Most of them will close right after summer, so you want to get those nomination packets in as early as possible. Also note that many congressmen will host Service Academy Days in the spring or fall (ours did in the fall) at which candidates can meet the Academy POC and the local BGO (Blue and Gold Officer). Oftentimes the academies will send a current midshipman to the forum, who will give a presentation on what it's really like to attend the USNA. These Service Academy Days are a phenomenal resource! Try to get acquainted with your BGO as early in the process as you can. And please remember that your BGO is a VOLUNTEER. Another word of advice: Start prepping NOW for the Candidate Fitness Assessment. It's a tough test and you have to be able to run a mile after doing several other challenges. If you get NASS, you will take the CFA there. Better to be in shape and prepared for it. If you don't get NASS, try to get the CFA done over the summer when you have time to prep. Again, good luck!
