Presentation of ROTC Scholarship?

We had an Army JROTC awards (consisting of 15 schools composing our county) night that recognized all award winners followed by all military scholarships.

I asked my ALO to present my scholarship to me during my graduation ceremony last Friday. It was very simple: he read the statement provided to him and gave me a certificate. I don't think the audience totally "got it" but I had some family members who didn't know I had gotten the scholarship, so they were extremely thrilled to have witnessed it. And some of my American Legion buddies were there to witness the presentation and they were busting with pride. That's all that really mattered to me.

About how long did it take you to get the form in the mail that asks you to be recognized for an Army ROTC scholarship? I got my AF one a LONG time ago (and got the award in the mail today) but I haven't heard anything from Army. I don't want to be annoying to them, but I also would love to have it presented at my Salute to Seniors, which is in a few weeks.

Received a NROTC scholly in January, did not hear from my recruiter until a week ago, when he asked could he come to awards day and presented the big check for 180k. It was cool, and half my class asked how could they have gotten one. I think ROTC scholly is a relative well kept secret. My father was a career recruiter, is the only reason I knew about it.

Presentation

My son's awards ceremony was tonight at his H.S. His ALO presented all 4 AFA Cadets their spots and then my son's Type 1 ROTC. It was very nice.

The Army folks also did 2 for W.P. and 2 for Army ROTC. They even brought 2 W.P. Cadets with them for help.

All in all, they were some of the loudest applause's of the evening.

My school will not allow scholarships to be announced.

My parents are going to notify the papers. Does anyone have any form type letters that we can use?

Since the school I will be attending my parents suggested that we can go there and make a ceremony of it there then go to dinner.

When I was awarded my AFROTC scholarship, Maxwell sent me a form for information that I wanted to be released for a newspaper press release. They then put together a very nice article for my hometown paper to print (which they did). It just basically says what the scholarship entails in general and the fact that I was one of those fortunate recipients. It gave my name, my parents' names and my school. I don't know what the other ROTC programs do for press releases but this is what AFROTC does.

Presentation of Award

My son just graduated from high school and at his school's awards banquet he was presented with a "big check" from a Marine's representative. It was very impressive to see our military in uniform presenting the awards in front of both the Junior and Senior classes. A great recruiting tool and a very proud patriotic moment! All we personally did was notify the school of his scholarship and they took it from there. So, I guess it's up to the individual high school to invite the special guests to be present at the awards ceremony.

A great big "Thank You" to Captain Eybl for taking the time to make our son's accomplishment even more special! We can't thank you enough for your service to our country.

I got a check for my scholarship, but the school wouldn't allow any of the ROTC scholarships to be presented during our awards day because they claimed they didn't have time. But all in all we had one Marine Option NROTC Scholarship, Two NROTC Scholarships, One Army Scholarship, and One Air Force Scholarship.

Several years ago, when my son was presented his AFROTC scholarship, there were presentations from the Army, Marines, and Air Force.

The Army and Marines sent two enlisted folks that looked like it wasn't too long since they attended basic training. Their presentations took all of 20 seconds and basically just hand those students a certificate and told the audience that they had received ROTC scholarships.

The Air Force sent a Captain from the local detachment. It turned out to be the same Captain that did all my son's initial interviews for the schloarship, so he knew my son fairly well. Clearly this Captain had done the presentation before. He played up both the monetary benefits, as well as the patriotic aspects. His presentation skills were outstanding. My son received one of the largest ovations that evening.

My son getting that "over the top" recognition from his peers and their families was overwhelming. So for those getting schlorships now, I highly recommend getting the presentation if your high school allows it. Unfortunately, it's still probably the "luck of the draw" on who does your presentation and how it comes across.

Good luck to all on your new careers in the military!

I actually have a video of my presentation, it was in a small classroom of my NJROTC class instead of say a more formal presentation.
