Hello,
This might seem like a weird question, but can my DD apply for two Presidential Nominations using both parents' service (both of us qualify)? Or is it just one Presidential Nom application per candidate, regardless of whether both parents served?
Thanks!

Short answer: No, and even if you could it wouldn’t help you

Long answer;
The presidential nomination is a guaranteed nomination. If you apply and have the correct qualifications you get it. But only a certain number of them will actually get appointments. (so applying twice won’t increase the chances of receiving the nomination). With that said even if you applied with both of your services separately I believe you would only get one presidential nomination. Plus they can only charge a certain number so it wouldn’t help to have multiple. (Since it would be charging to the same pool of applicants (if that makes sense)). When they tell you to apply for multiple nominations they mean nominations with different sources. At least that’s how I understand based on the research I have done.

Only 100 appointments in a class may be charged to the Presidential nom source, though there may be several hundred candidates who have the nom because they meet the criteria.

I am fairly sure the answer is just one, but as always, your daughter should confirm with the primary official source, her Admissions contacts.

Good morning,

My son is currently on the NAPS waitlist, so is on hold to reapply to the USNA at this point. He meets the criteria for the Presidential nomination although he did not apply for that this time around. Moving forward, could he start that application process now with his current situation?

He is registered for his Plan B school which is in another county in our current state. If he is not called off the NAPS waitlist, he will reapply. Does the congressional nomination still come from his home address or his new college address?

Thank you.

Usually it would be his home of record. That is more to a likely where he is registered to vote or will be? I would highly recommend if he is reapppying, to apply for a Presidential.

I don’t know this answer but agree that it really doesn’t matter. As mentioned the Presidential is an automatic nom. You qualify, you get it. Not sure on other SAs, but USNA usually has 700-800 who qualify for the Presidential, but only 100 can ultimately be charged to this nom source.

First, a helpful link:

Noms must be freshly applied for each admissions cycle.

Per USNA website, candidates are encouraged to apply for all noms for which eligible. That is usually 4 - 2 Senator, 1 Representative, VP. Then any additional noms.

If he has a USNA application open for 2029, he can apply for the Presidential nom anytime. He submits required documentation to USNA, and it eventually shows up in his portal. There is no rush.

If he gets into NAPS, he’ll be guided through a tailored reapplication process, which will include applying for noms again. He would also have enlisted status at NAPS, which is another nom source.

If he doesn’t, he’ll follow the link above.

Thank you, I appreciate it.

Thank you for the information. His 2029 application is not open, but he will be prepped and ready if need be.

Good morning,
Can a DS apply for a Presidential nomination if a parent served 12 years and then was honorably discharged?

Generally, no. Recommend you read the link for full details.

@Ryan626

Not unless your parent was retired rather than separated. All respect to him as a veteran with honorable service.

And info directly found on an SA website, example from USNA:

Thank you❤️
IF your Veteran parent carries a VA rating of 100% Disabled or is entitled to Individual Unemployability (same as 100%), you can apply for a SDVN (Service Disabled Veteran Nom). Similar to a Presidential, it is automatic if the parent is Totally Disabled, you simply submit the parents VA rating sheet and fill out the form, but appointments are limited. But it is another way to get a Nom👍. Many Veterans were discharged without a "Medical' retirement, but still gained a Total and Permanent Rating from the VA. All siblings of such a Vet are allowed to claim this nomination.

siblings?
I've never seen any veteran/military program where siblings get a benefit.
I saw that as well, and assumed there was an ellipsis moment where the intent was other siblings of the veteran’s sin or daughter using the nom.

If you are totally and Permanently Disabled by the VA, your son, daughter, or dependent can get the SDVN Nomination. Just like a Presidential Nom..:) Maybe siblings was confusing, I was referring to a Disabled or Retired Vet, not an applicant...sorry🤷‍♂️
