I am just wondering if the presidential nomination gives you a substantially better chance to get into the academy? If so what would an estimated acceptance rate for people who get the presidential nomination into the academies? Does each academy get 100 presidential nomination candidates or is the 100 slots between all of the academies?

I strongly recommend reading the Sticky post at the very top of the Nominations thread here in SAF. The SA.edu sites also address Presidential noms.

For those SAs that use Presidential nominations, they can each charge up to 100 appointments to that nom source. If they have 600 applicants eligible for that nom, only 100 can potentially get appointments charged to that nom. If they have 700, ditto 100. If they have other noms, then they are still in the game if they don’t get an offer of appointment from the Presidential nom list.

An application is evaluated on its merits. A nom, for those SAs that use them, is simply a block to check, rather like U.S. citizenship. The “flavor” or source of a nom does not confer any special advantage.

Thank you for clarifying this, however having a Presidential nom does relive some pressure from Shaggy15 correct? If he/she doesn't receive their MOC/SEN noms, they are still in the game so that helps. Also if he/she receives an LOA they are automatically in with a Presidential and passing medical so that helps too. Or am I wrong? Thx for clarifying!

Many here have used the analogies that additional noms are like having another bite at the apple or another lottery ticket. The more noms, the more flexibility the SA has in where to charge an appointment.

There are dozens of threads on LOAs. Generally, if the candidate satisfies the conditions specified in the LOA, whatever they are, an offer will be made. A small variance in legal language does not bind USNA to this, different from other SAs, but they generally make an offer.

Anyone have any luck having their Presidential nom show up in the USNA portal? My DD has sent it in TWICE (once certified and the USPS has lost it! and once regular) and still nothing showing up. USAFA showed up within a week of mailing the info.

DS’ application does not show his Presidential nom either. He emailed his admissions officer, and he confirmed the nom was indeed received. Not sure why they aren’t updating the database. Maybe that will be for the 100 candidates they select to receive appointments with the Presidential nom.

shouldn’t matter if the give them 1 of the 100 or not. They automatically receive the nom, it just might not be used on them.

Thanks. Think I will have DD check with her admission officer.
