Hello all, DS was DQ'd for "history of food allergies" and is pending medical waiver/review for an AROTC scholarship. Took him to a board certified allergist who is a retired Army 0-6 (former chief of immunology) for testing this morning here in Colorado Springs. Skin test for soy and dairy came back negative :yllol:. Dr. suggested we also have a blood test done for the immunogobulin and we should have results for that test in about a week. My questions are these...
1)Should we have the Dr. draft a letter about the results of the skin test and submit to DoDMERB and Cadet Command now or wait until the blood test comes back in about 7-10 days? My concern is that CC has had DS file for about 30 days now and may render an and unfavorable decesion without having all the information.
2) Is it possible that DoDMERB can now remove the DQ based on this new information and thus negate the necessity for a waiver/review?

Thank you for your advice.

Sheriff3,

Did you and the allergist discuss a food challenge as well? Our DS went through the skin test and food challenges under the supervision of the allergist. All of that was completed prior to her initial physical with Concorde. Shortly after the physical was completed, she received a request for remedial paperwork - the allergist's files from the food challenges and treatment records from a sports injury in 2008. We submitted the remedial paperwork to DODMERB and are awaiting further instructions.

A6&F18driver,

Thanks for the response. We did discuss a food challange but based on history i.e. he often eats and drinks dairy and soy products with no effects the Dr. thought it a waste of time. He thought the best tests would be skin (passed) and RAST blood test. Received results on the RAST yesterday. Dairy 0/not sensitive. Soy low class 2 on a scale of 0-6. RAST tests have a history of false positives. We have asked DoDMERB to reconsider the "history of anaphalyxis" based on the new medical information and are awaiting a response from them. Hopefully we both will hear something soon. Good luck.

Sheriff3,

Glad the skin tests and RAST results were moving in a positive direction. For what its worth, my DD sent her remedial paperwork (medical records related to the food testing) to DODMERB via FedEx last week, and received her letter from DODMERB yesterday stating she is medically qualified.

A6&F18driver,

great new for you!!! We are still waiting on 2 fronts. 1. DoDMERB to change status to Qualified with new information or 2. Waiver by CC.

have a great weekend.
