On another thread under one of the other SAs, there is a good discussion of comparing the summer seminars.
Along these lines, can any past participants of the USAFA's summer seminar speak of what they truly enjoyed most of the experience? Did it confirm your already existing desire to attend USAFA...or did it sway you when you were undecided or leaning toward another SA?
On the flip side, if you went and did not care for it, what were your reasons?

Thanks-
S

I only went to the USAFA summer seminar so I can't really compare them but I really enjoyed the experience. I had always wanted to go to USAFA and summer seminar just made me that more excited and motivated about the tedious application process.

My favorite part would have to be "doolie for the day." This gives students a VERY SMALL taste of what it's like to be a doolie.

At summer seminar it's also important to take in all the information they give you. When Gen. Kelley came and spoke to us about Falcon Foundation scholarships, I had no idea that I would one day be a recipient of one of these scholarships. I am, however, very grateful that I had been given the opportunity to hear about the program from the president of the foundation!! You never know what will apply to you so pay attention to everything!

Final thought: you make friends who have the same interests as you. Several of my summer seminar friends are starting recognition tonight and they have been very helpful and supportive by giving me advice and by sharing their experiences from being a doolie. Another friend I made ended up being one of my roomates last semester at NWP!

I greatly enjoyed my experience at SS seminar two years ago. I think it is really like a very extended college visit or open house. For me, it gave me a tiny glimpse into military life, which was very important, because in my area of the country there are no military personnel, no bases, and no exposure to that culture. I loved it, but my SS seminar roommate did not. She realized it that the academy life would be just a bit too physical and too much yelling for her. It was still a good experience for her, I think, because the whole point of a college visit is to see whether it is the right place for you. It's a great place also to ask every question you can think of. Unlike CBT, the Cadre are very friendly and open to chat, so you can get a very intimate (not what the official brochures say) look at their life and see if it is what you would want. It also helps, come the next summer, because you know the personalities behind the yelling. Finally, I really really REALLY enjoyed meeting other candidates. Finding, for the first time, a place where I got along so well with everyone and where everyone was so very much like me, was the greatest thing I got out of summer seminar. Feel free to PM me if you have questions.
