Hi everyone!

I just wanted to know if anyone that has a principal nomination has also been found 3Q, and if you are 3Q can you list your academic qualifications?
I think I'm pretty much 3Q cause I have an above average GPA, above average SAT Scores and class standing, but I wanted to know what the general consensus is on academic qualifications.

My principal nomination will show up on my portal Friday, & then I'm hoping to be found 3Q. Is is true that if you receive a principal nomination and are 3Q you'll get your appointment before February 26th?

Thanks!

Being 3Q isn't directly related to your NOM status. I am not sure there is any value in trying to compares stats to other candidates since there is more to this then just the numbers. Being 3Q also includes your CFA and DODMERB status. Things like teacher evaluations, h.s. leadership, ECA's, etc. also enter into the Q for scholastic (it is more then just grades and class rank) and no one generally has access to what teachers have said about them in their recommendation letter (good or bad). I don't think it is valid to 'assume' you are 3Q based only on your stats.

Well, I didn't want to put a whole "chance me" thing either, I get that it's not just solely based on scores and GPA, but I wanted to know if anyone who has received triple qualification knows what the "minimum standards" are.

Review the data of the previous classes that have been admitted. There are links on here and directly on the West Point website. This will give you an idea of the class profile or "minimums" that you speak. As everybody here can attest, it is simply not based on GPA, SAT scores or class ranking. It is the whole person score that gives you the nod. The bottom line, and you will here this over and over. You will NEVER get in if you don't apply. Let the admissions board make the decision. Hope this helps.

+1 to Time2.

Can't over emphasize that 3Q includes DODMERB and CFA (along with your academics and leadership). With a primary Nomination, unless you are DQ'ed by DODMERB (w/o a waiver), fail to pass the CFA, or are deemed not ready academically - you will get an appointment.

You seem to be most concerned about academic minimums. My caution to you is that once you are at the academy, the academics are far more challenging than you can imagine now for a variety of reasons. If you only meet the "minimums" to get in, you may find it difficult to feel like you are succeeding. Your goal should be to complete the academy, not just get into it. The rule of thumb at most Tier 1 Universities is to expect your GPA to drop 1 point from HS to College. At the academies that may be too generous considering all the other "stuff" going on outside the typical college experience (drill, sports, and duties). So when you look at the past class statistics, remember that you will be competing with peers of that caliber and the challenges will be far more than just academics.
