Is the enlisted status of an enlisted coastie closed out before entering the Academy? Would the enlisted person be “honorably discharged” from the Coast Guard before he/she enters the CG Academy?

I believe that they are honorably discharged before they enter the academy. For CGAS students at NAPS they were honorably discharged upon NAPS graduation and re-enlisted at the academy.

Re-enlisted at the academy? What exactly do you mean?

Re-enlisted at the academy? What exactly do
You might find more information here.

I assume sworn in with the rest of the plebes.
Tsk tsk. Plebes? That’s Navy and Army. We’re proud swabs over here.

Also, to clarify, you get sworn into the academy, which is different from enlisting. When you swear into the academy, you are a cadet, and that status come with its own special rules and privileges.

To my knowledge, your enlistment contract is "suspended" on Day One. If you commission, the time on your enlistment contract goes concurrently with your Academy obligation (i.e. no extra time for you). If you separate, you finish out your enlistment contract (in addition to any mandatory contract extensions. I know that you need at least 24mo left on your contract on I-Day for USNA).
