Provider issues and expectations?

DS called the recommended provider to schedule his physical eval today. He explained he would be coming in for a DODMERB Physical and was told "We don't schedule appointments. Walk-ins only." He explained that the DODMETS system required he apply an appointment time once it was made. Same response from the receptionist, who suggested he just come in and put in his physical date/time after the eval. DS wasn't comfortable with that and requested a new provider on the DODMETS site.

There was also some difficulty scheduling with the optometrist. The receptionist wanted to know who DS's recruiter is. DS explained he was a service academy applicant and did not have a recruiter. This created a lot of confusion for the staff. He's waiting on a call back from them tomorrow.

Par for the course? Or is this why CIV provides a phone number for problems? Trying to temper expectations.

sounds like he is handling things well. My son had some issues with his exams. My number one tip is to have your son ask for copies of his exams from the provider either that day, or as soon as they will provide them to him. If there’s an issue later he won’t have to contact the provider to submit again (DS had to do this with his hearing test) he can simply submit them himself. He also had to return to the Optometrist for an addition exam at DodMerb request because the Eye Dr forgot one part of the exam, so be sure they know what they are doing and have done these before. DS lost a lot of time with these kinds of issues others have not had.

Do you have a list of exams (or parts of the exam) the Optometrist has to do? In case our Eye Dr. forgets some parts. Thanks

When is your exam? My DD’s is Friday. When I called, the immediately asked if it was DoDMERB, so I guess they know what they’re doing. Happy to post after

I’m sorry but I don’t. DS’s was missing his Uncorrected vision. I wonder if DoDMets can provide the blank form to you? Hopefully it doesn’t happen very often, my son was just unfortunate enough to have several technical issues with his exams 😆

Thank you so much! This is very helpful and I've passed on the recommendation to get the records at the time of his evals to DS.

CIV got back with DS today and advised him how to procede with the provider who would not schedule an appt. ;)
