pull up question

My son is quite tall, with very long arms, so he has had a hard time finding a pull up bar that is high enough to practice on that allows his legs to hang straight. He usually has a 90 degree bend in his knees. Our question is if this is acceptable, or if his legs have to hang straight down, to be official? Thanks for your help.

I’m about 6’4” and during sle I had my legs at a 90 degree angle just from habit and that was acceptable.

Do you know if it is ok for him to cross his feet at the ankles, while doing it?
Those are all OK. My son is also 6'4" and had a similar issue. The main thing is not to kip up or use a swinging motion to gain momentum for the event. We had to redo the video for WP due to some questions on the first video. He redid the pullups on his pullup bar in his doorway and those were accepted.

The instructions for the CFA do not specify exactly how your legs should hang. It only states that there should be no swinging, kicking, or bicycling of the legs (no kipping pull-ups). If the candidate must bend their knees, that is acceptable. The key is the arm position and how the jawline breaks the plane of the bar to count. I would recommend checking out your local high school gym weight room as they often have tall racks for pull ups. You might also check with a local gym for the same if your son is not comfortable with bent legs.
