Pushing CST for End of Camp Commission

I am a contracted MSIII Cadet with a 4 year national scholarship.

I recently was extended an internship offer for a company I have been applying to (and rejected from) for the past year and a half. This internship is 12 weeks long and takes place the majority of the summer, including during CST. In January (when I received notice of the offer) I discussed this with my HRA and my options of pushing camp till next summer so that I could complete my internship. The response I received was that he would "look into it." Fast forward to this week, now I am being told that pushing camp till next summer is not likely as its "too late to ask" and that I will most likely have to give up my internship.

I planned on going reserves and this internship is for the position and company I want to work for, giving this up (in my finally eligible summer as a junior) is not an option for me. What are my options here? I greatly appreciate any help in advance!

Have you talked to your Ms III instructor and/or your PMS? Sounds like you need some internal support.

Hello,

Yes sir I have spoke to pretty much all my cadre about the situation (PMS, SMI, ROO, and HRA)

They did not give me a final answer, but they gave me a "likely" answer. That is, I will most likely have to give up my internship.
My question is, is it really not possible to push camp till next summer? My HRA is continuing to "look into it" but this is time sensitive. My internship is in a different city and I need to start looking for places to relocate. I also cannot wait too long to cancel on this company

Yes, it’s possible to be an end of camp commissionee. This summer will probably be a mess like last summer, so in some ways you would probably get more out of a summer 2022 CST.

Your PMS will have to submit a request with a “why” explanation. Support from your PMS and a solid request will usually get approved. Changes in CST attendance happen up to and including Day 0. Cadets get hurt, graduation situations change ( degree changes, grades...), positive COVID prior to arrival, death of family member...

It just takes work on the part of your PMS and HRA. Be as proactive as possible. Ask if you can do some of the work or help (write a very succinct 1 page executive summary that explains why you are requesting CST in summer 2022).

Ask to meet with your PMSand bring a copy of your 1 page write up. You may need to really explain how important this is.

All of the above is based on the assumption that you are a “good Cadet” that has always met or exceeded all requirement. You have to be able to convince your Cadre that they should go to bat for you. If you have any questionable experiences with your Cadre the info above would not apply.

If you are going reserve component internships are usually looked favorable bc it helps you get a job. Want active duty- pack your ruck for camp. Do the leg work- ask for the camp deferment checklist and get it all together. CC is looking for folks not to go this summer.

Maybe explain your situation(if you haven't already) to the company. Tell them you really want to work for them but also want to serve your country by being in the reserves. See if the company will give you a different opportunity or make accomodations.
