Qualified...Surprisingly

I checked my DoDMERB portal about an hour ago, and I was surprised to see that I am qualified for all academies. Because I am horrendously nearsighted, my USAFA ALO was almost certain that I would be disqualified and need a waiver for my visual acuity (he said disqualifying was anything worse than 20/50 uncorrected), as mine were 20/200 L and 20/250 R. Is it possible that I was qualified because it's still 20/20 corrected?

In any case, I am still very happy because I am now completely done with the applications process and can now join the waiting game with everyone else.

It is a DQ of you are -8.00

It is also DQ if your vision can not be corrected to 20/20 in each eye. If you can get to 20/20 in each eye, all is good.

Just a warning my DS was qualified on the portal then about 2 weeks later we received a letter saying he was DQ. After a phone call to DODMERB we were told they initially overlooked a shoulder injury he had during football the year prior. Now waiting to get the waiver results from USAFA and USMA. Don't want to scare you just be prepared the status could change.
