hello! I am filling out the application for the rotc scholarship and I just had a question about the school of intent section. I noticed that I had to pick a major and proceed to pick the colleges I am interested in. However, I already got into a couple colleges through a different major than the major I had chosen on my ROTC portal. Am I no longer able to put in those colleges because they are not the same major as the major I had chosen in the rotc portal? thank you!

Example:
I got into rutgers university for economics but I put down political science as my major in the rotc portal
can I not put rutgers university in my list of schools due to the difference in majors?

Quote from the AROTC website:
You may select your academic major from among these discipline groups. Once a scholarship has been awarded, prior approval must be given for any change of academic major which migrates from one discipline group to another discipline group. Select from the academic discipline list first. This will display the academic majors for that discipline in the major list.
Is economics and political science under the same discipline in the AROTC portal?

*I am in no way qualified to speak on the subject, but I would not think that a change from political science to economics would be a major problem, they might even be in the same discipline (I cannot see which majors are in which disciplines on my portal). A change that would cause concern is choosing a engineering major on AROTC but enrolling into college as a history major... I think.

Why would it cause concern?

After reading other threads about this topic, it does not seem to be much of an issue. The AROTC portal does state, though, that:

My son and one of his friends each changed their majors after accepting the scholarship but before they commissioned. If I remember correctly, you have unlimited changes until you contract but once you contract you may only be able to change 1 or 2 times. It was an easy process for them, and not uncommon from what I’ve heard. One went from psych to nursing and the other from exercise science to poly sci. (not sure of what the discipline groups were, but I know they changed)

My son went in on a 4 year scholarship as a physics major and changed to a political science major spring of freshman year (after he contracted) it was not a problem

My DS and the ROO at his school spoke to the contracted personnel. If you change majors and it extends your college term they may or may not allow it. For example, at Cal Poly, if I remember correctly - Engineering is a 4 year degree however it is actually a 5 year college term based on availability of classes, etc. I could be 100% wrong but it may depend on the college and the ROTC program. If someone else has clarity I am open to it.
