Hello,

I am a college reapplicant that received a nom from my MOC. The MOC only nominated 5 candidates.

From reading the nominations thread, I understand that a MOC can nominate UP TO 10 candidates per 1 vacancy at the academy.

Question:
Regardless if you’re a highschool applicant or college applicant, is there only one vacancy in my case?

I ask this because last year my MOC nominated 9, and 3 ended up at USNA. Also, for college applicants, it’s suggested we wait until January to submit our apps due to transcripts. So for example if a highschool applicant in my district gets an appointment early due to rolling admission, would the vacancy be taken?

Thank you!

First, go read the pinned post at the top of the Nominations forums.

Each MOC (speaking strictly DoD, as USMMA has some nuances) can have five appointees (absolutely doesn’t matter if they are right out of HS or a 3x reapplicant) charged to them at any one time at each of USMA, USNA, USAFA. These are spread across 4 years. This means 1 class will have 2 nominees, so 2 slates will be submitted that cycle. When one class graduates in May, that opens up the spot(s).

Yes, a slate can have up to 10 nominees. The MOC could even submit a slate with 1 nominee. They have complete freedom as to their application process, timeline, evaluation, selection (including may not interview), notification (including may not notify), as long as they submit to the SA by 1/31. Only their staffers could tell you the why/why not.

One of the fully qualified nominees on the slate, regardless of method used to rank (or not), will be charged to the MOC for the vacant appointment slot. The SA may choose additional fully qualified nominees from the same slate and offer an appointment, and charge it to nom sources the SA controls.

Where an appointment may eventually be charged may not be finalized until cycle end.

A generous chunk of every class is reapplicants. That first semester of college grades is key.

I would ask Admissions, your primary source, if they recommend you go ahead and submit your application now, and then submit the transcript in January, as the website recommends. Unless Admissions advised you to wait until January to submit the whole thing?
